Loud cheers and lots of applause filled the Bill Harris Arena at the Birmingham Crossplex on June 1-2, but the excitement had nothing to do with sporting events. More than 1,000 students received diplomas from Birmingham City Schools in the class of 2023.

This graduating class included students from the traditional BCS High Schools – G.W. Carver, Huffman, P.D. Jackson-Olin, A.H. Parker, Ramsay, Wenonah, and Woodlawn. Students from the BCS Virtual Academy of Learning received their diplomas in ceremonies with their initial high school.

The class of 2023 received scholarship offers totaling more than $50 million to attend colleges in Alabama and around the country. A total of 525 students have met the criteria to receive tuition support from the Birmingham Promise. Also, several scholars are entering the military.

If you missed the commencement exercises, they all are available via Livestream.
