STEM students at Jones Valley Middle School participated in the Alabama State Technology Student Association (TSA) Competition in Montgomery, Alabama against 15 other middle schools on April 18th and 19th. The competition challenged the use and improvement of their STEM skills in both team and individual events in such areas as: communications, design and engineering, environmental systems, transportation, and manufacturing/construction. All competitions are aligned with STEM standards, ten core leadership skills (communication, creative thinking, critical thinking, decision making, ethics, evaluation, organization, problem solving, self-esteem, and teamwork), and the 16 Career Clusters. Jones Valley students developed the ability to plan, organize, and carry out activities and projects together. By providing opportunities to integrate and use the knowledge and skills of other educational disciplines, Jones Valley students have become more interested in learning.
